ASHDOD, Israel (Interstat) — Substitute Basam Zaarura scored twice, including an 86th-minute winner, to propel visiting Maccabi Netanya to a 3-2 victory over Ashdod in a Liga Bet match Sunday at Yud-Alef Stadium. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the hosts.

Netanya opened the scoring through Karim Kimvuidi in the 13th minute, but Ashdod defender Arial Mendy equalized 15 minutes later. Substitute Maor Levi put Netanya ahead again in the 37th, only for Zaarura’s first goal to tie it for Ashdod just before halftime. Zaarura then secured the win late.

The match featured eight yellow cards, with three issued in second-half stoppage time. Maccabi Netanya begins its season 1-0-0, while Ashdod starts 0-1-0.
