Club Brugge Routs Anderlecht in High-Scoring Belgian League Opener
BRUGGE, Belgium (Interstat) — Club Brugge opened its First Division A season with a decisive 4-2 victory over rival Anderlecht on Monday at Jan Breydelstadion.
The home side built a commanding 3-0 lead by the 37th minute with goals from Kyriani Sabbe, Aleksandar Stanković and Christos Tzolis. Anderlecht substitute Thorgan Hazard pulled one back in the 55th minute, but Club Brugge sealed the win with a late Romeo Vermant strike in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time. Anderlecht’s Mihajlo Cvetković scored a consolation goal a minute later.
Stanković and Tzolis each recorded a goal and an assist to lead Club Brugge. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had forecast a 2-1 win for Anderlecht.
