Substitutes Spark Lechia Gdansk to Draw Against Piast Gliwice
GDANSK, Poland (Interstat) — Lechia Gdansk and Piast Gliwice played to a 1-1 draw in an Ekstraklasa match Monday at Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk.
Piast Gliwice’s Ivan Zhelizko opened the scoring in the 63rd minute. The lead was short-lived, however, as Lechia’s Patryk Dziczek equalized just minutes after entering as a substitute. Dziczek’s goal was assisted by fellow substitute Igor Drapiński.
The match was marred by discipline issues, including a red card shown to Piast’s Ema Twumasi in the 24th minute. Four yellow cards were also issued in the second half.
Both teams begin their Polish league campaigns with a draw, earning one point each. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Lechia Gdansk to win.
