CATANZARO, Italy (Interstat) — Substitute Pedro Mendes scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time Tuesday, salvaging a 2-2 draw for Modena against Catanzaro in a Serie B match at Stadio Nicola Ceravolo.

The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. Catanzaro’s Filippo Pittarello opened the scoring in the 5th minute, but Modena’s Davide Adorni, also a substitute, leveled in the 28th. Fabio Rispoli put Catanzaro back ahead just before halftime.

Modena pressed late and was rewarded when Mendes struck in the 90+5 minute to share the points. The frantic finish saw three yellow cards issued in the first half. Both clubs opened their league campaigns with a draw, moving to identical records across all competitions.
