(Interstat) — FSV Mainz 05 W opened its UEFA Europa Conference League campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Mewa Arena. The German side exceeded a pregame projection that favored it to win by one goal.

Defender Stefan Posch led the way with a goal and an assist. He set up midfielder Kaishu Sano’s opener in the 11th minute before scoring himself in the 19th. The result gave Mainz a win to start its season across all competitions, while Strasbourg began with a loss.

The match concluded with a flurry of yellow cards in stoppage time, with four players booked, including Posch. Interstat’s ELO system had given Mainz an 80.2% probability to win prior to kickoff.
