Cagliari vs Atalanta

CAGLIARI, Italy (Interstat) — Cagliari hosts Atalanta on Monday in a Serie A match that carries significant implications for both clubs’ standing in the Italian top flight.

The fixture at Sardegna Arena comes two weeks before the scheduled end of the 2025-26 season. Atalanta enters with a mixed recent record, going 2-2-1 in its last five matches, while Cagliari has lost four of its last five.

The teams’ most recent meeting came Dec. 13, when Atalanta defeated Cagliari 2-1 in Bergamo. That result extended Atalanta’s dominance in the head-to-head series.

Atalanta (14-9-8, 51 points) is coming off a 1-1 draw at AS Roma on April 18, preceded by a 1-0 loss at Udinese on April 14. The club split results April 11, losing 1-0 to Juventus and beating Inter Milan 2-0. Atalanta also posted a 3-0 win at Lecce on April 6 and a 0-0 draw with Inter on the same day. Earlier results include a 1-0 win at Verona and a pair of March 14 matches: a 2-0 loss to Verona and a 0-0 draw at Salernitana. Atalanta also drew 1-1 with Inter on March 14 and drew 2-2 at Udinese on March 7.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s side has shown inconsistency but remains in contention for European qualification. Atalanta’s next match is May 2 against Genoa, followed by a May 10 trip to AC Milan.

Cagliari (9-7-15, 34 points) is struggling to distance itself from the relegation zone after a 3-0 loss at Inter Milan on April 17. The team rebounded with a 1-0 win at US Cremonese on April 11 but dropped a 2-1 decision at Sassuolo on April 4. Cagliari also lost 1-0 at Napoli on March 20, 3-1 at Pisa on March 15 and 2-1 to Como on March 7. A 1-1 draw at Parma on Feb. 27, a 0-0 draw at Lazio on Feb. 21, a 2-0 loss at Lecce on Feb. 16 and a 2-0 loss at AS Roma on Feb. 9 round out recent results. Cagliari’s lone bright spot was a 4-0 victory over Verona on Jan. 31.

Cagliari faces a critical road match at Bologna on May 3 before hosting Udinese on May 9.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw between the sides Monday, a result that would leave both teams with a share of points but neither satisfied given their respective positions in the table.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. local time at Sardegna Arena.
