AP Sports Preview
MANAMA, Bahrain (Interstat) — Al Shabab hosts Bahrain SC on Tuesday, April 28, in a Bahrain Premier League matchup that carries contrasting momentum.
Al Shabab (3-7-7 in league play) returns home after a 1-0 defeat at Malkiya on April 18. The loss snapped a five-match unbeaten run that included three draws and two wins. Al Shabab’s last victory came Feb. 19, a 1-0 result at A’ali CSC. The team has struggled to score consistently, netting only 12 goals in 17 league matches, but has been defensively compact, conceding 15.
Bahrain SC (2-2-14) enters on a four-match losing streak. The latest was a 2-1 home defeat to Al Ahli on April 17. In their past five games, Bahrain SC has been outscored 16-3, including a 7-0 thrashing at Muharraq on Feb. 20. The club’s lone league win this season came Jan. 24, a 3-0 result at Muharraq, but since then they have lost seven of eight matches.
Tuesday’s game is the second meeting of the season. On Jan. 24, the sides played to a 0-0 draw in Manama. That result extended Bahrain SC’s unbeaten run against Al Shabab to three matches, with two draws and a win in 2024-25. However, Al Shabab has not beaten Bahrain SC since March 2024.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-1 victory for Al Shabab, a result that would snap a three-match winless streak against their opponent. Al Shabab has been stronger at home, where they have drawn three and lost two of their past five league fixtures, while Bahrain SC has lost seven of eight away matches this season.
Bahrain SC will play host to Malkiya on May 3 in its next fixture. Al Shabab’s next match has not yet been scheduled.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. local time at the Bahrain National Stadium.
