ZAGREB, Croatia (Interstat) — Georgia U19 opened its UEFA Under-19 Championship qualification campaign with a dominant 4-1 victory over Azerbaijan U19 on Friday at Igralište Lučkog.

The visitors controlled the match from the start. Lolita Kaloiani opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by a Natia Jojua goal in the 25th. Substitutes Anano Tsikaridze and Ani Davituliani added second-half goals in the 83rd and sixth minute of stoppage time, respectively. Xanım Əsədova scored Azerbaijan’s lone goal.

The result defied pre-match projections that favored Azerbaijan. The match turned chippy late, with Azerbaijan’s Aysu Əsədova receiving a yellow card and a subsequent red card in stoppage time. Georgia begins qualification with a win, while Azerbaijan starts with a loss.
