Avranches M-S-M vs Angoul Charente
Preview: Avranches M-S-M Hosts Angoul Charente in National 2 Clash
AVRANCHES, France (Interstat) — Two sides seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when Avranches M-S-M hosts Angoul Charente in a French National 2 fixture.
The match at Stade René Fenouillère pits a mid-table Avranches side against a visiting Angoul Charente team hovering near the bottom of the table. The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.
Avranches (2-6-10) comes off a 2-2 home draw with St-Colomban Locmine on Saturday. That result extended its unbeaten run to three matches in all competitions, a modest uptick for a team that has struggled for consistency. Its last outing was a 2-0 loss at Saint-Malo on March 18.
Manager David Giguet will look for continued offensive output after his side scored five goals in a win over Saumur in February, but defensive solidity remains a concern. Avranches has conceded multiple goals in three of its last five league games.
Angoul Charente (3-8-7) arrives after a 1-1 road draw at Saint-Malo last Friday. That point snapped a three-match losing streak across all competitions, though the club has found goals hard to come by. It has been shut out in four of its last six league matches, including a 5-0 thrashing at Aviron Bayonnais on Feb. 27.
Its lone victory in the last two months was a 1-0 home win over Les Herbiers on Feb. 14. Manager Nicolas Cloarec will hope the resilient display at Saint-Malo signals a turning point, but his team’s away form is poor, with just one win on the road this campaign.
Historically, the fourth-tier National 2 is a proving ground for France’s aspiring professional clubs. Both teams will view this midweek encounter as a critical opportunity to build form for the season’s final stretch.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. local time (1800 GMT) on April 1.
