Late Double Lifts Orenburg Over Nizhny Novgorod

ORENBURG, Russia (Interstat) — Alexandre Jesus scored twice in a stunning three-minute span late in the second half Wednesday, rallying FK Orenburg to a 2-1 victory over Nizhny Novgorod in a Russian Premier League match at Stadion Gazovik.

The visitors led 1-0 until the 79th minute. Jesus then equalized before netting the decisive goal in the 82nd minute, overturning both the match and the pregame projections. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, and its ELO system gave Nizhny Novgorod a 52.2% probability to win.

The frantic finish followed a physical first half that produced three yellow cards. Five total cautions were issued in the match. With the win, Orenburg begins its league campaign 1-0-0, while Nizhny Novgorod starts 0-0-1.
