Substitute Carla Boyce’s Hat Trick Fuels Motherwell’s Upset Victory Over Aberdeen
ABERDEEN, Scotland (Interstat) — Substitute Carla Boyce scored three goals Sunday to propel Motherwell LFC to a 4-3 road victory over Aberdeen in SWPL 1 action at Balmoral Stadium.
Motherwell, a heavy underdog, defied a pregame projection that gave Aberdeen an 85.8% chance to win. The visitors opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Keri Halliday. Aberdeen’s Hannah Stewart equalized, but Boyce put Motherwell ahead just before halftime.
Bridget Galloway extended the lead early in the second half. Boyce then completed her hat trick in the 71st minute for a 4-1 advantage. Aberdeen mounted a late rally with goals from Stewart and Abigail Tobin but fell short. Jessica Broadrick and Tobin received yellow cards in the match.
