Sassuolo vs Cagliari

Preview: Sassuolo Hosts Cagliari in Serie A Clash

REGGIO EMILIA, Italy (Interstat) — Sassuolo looks to build on a rare victory when it hosts a struggling Cagliari side in Serie A play on Saturday.

The match at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore pits two clubs in the lower half of the table against each other in a pivotal relegation scrap. A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a 1-1 draw.

Sassuolo (8-11-9) enters with momentum from a 2-0 road win over Sampdoria last Saturday, its first victory in five matches. Prior to that, the Neroverdi showed resilience in a 1-1 draw at Juventus. Their form has been inconsistent, however, with just two wins in their last 10 league outings.

Cagliari (6-10-12) is mired in a deeper slump, winless in its last four games and coming off a 1-0 home loss to Napoli on March 20. The Sardinian club has managed only one victory – a stunning 1-0 upset of Juventus in January – in its last 10 matches, conceding multiple goals in six of those contests. Defense has been a persistent issue.

Recent history favors the hosts. In the last meeting between the sides on Oct. 30, Sassuolo secured a 2-1 away victory at the Unipol Domus.

The stakes are high for both. With eight games remaining, every point is critical in the fight to avoid the drop. Cagliari sits just above the relegation zone, while Sassuolo is a few places higher but not yet safe.

For Cagliari, the match begins a tough stretch that includes upcoming fixtures against Inter Milan and Atalanta. Sassuolo faces a similarly challenging path, with games against Genoa, Como and Fiorentina on the horizon.

Saturday’s contest could hinge on which version of each team arrives. If Sassuolo replicates its recent attacking verve and Cagliari’s defensive frailties persist, the home side will be favored. But Cagliari has shown a capacity for shock results this season and will be desperate to stop its slide.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. local time (1300 GMT).
