MONZA, Italy (Interstat) — AC Monza began its Serie B campaign with a 2-0 victory over visiting Bari on Saturday at U-Power Stadium.

Midfielder Pedro Obiang opened the scoring in the 50th minute. Matteo Pessina, also a midfielder, doubled the lead in the 79th minute to secure the three points. Substitute Giulio Maggiore and forward Andrea Petagna were credited with assists on the goals.

The result defied a pre-match projection that favored Bari. The visitors finished the match with three yellow cards, shown to Maggiore, Petagna and substitute Mehdi Dorval.

With the win, Monza starts the season with a perfect record while Bari seeks its first points.
