Lazio W vs AS Roma
ROME (Interstat) — AS Roma defeated city rival Lazio 2-1 in a Serie A Women’s match Saturday, overcoming an early deficit with two late second-half goals to secure a crucial derby victory at the Centro Sportivo di Formello.
The match, played before a charged crowd at Lazio’s Campo Mirko Fersini, saw the home side take a lead they would hold for over 40 minutes before Roma’s quality and persistence turned the game in the final stretch.
Lazio struck first in the 38th minute through forward Nikola Karczewska, whose finish gave the hosts a deserved advantage heading into halftime. Roma, which entered the match with only one loss in the league this season, controlled large portions of possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Lazio defense for much of the contest.
The momentum shifted decisively in the final 10 minutes. Roma midfielder Manuela Giugliano leveled the score in the 81st minute with a precise effort, setting the stage for a frantic finale. Just four minutes later, in the 85th minute, defender Frederikke Thøgersen completed the comeback for the visitors, scoring what proved to be the match-winner.
The match grew tense in the closing moments, with Lazio’s Megan Connolly receiving a yellow card in the 89th minute as the home side pushed unsuccessfully for an equalizer.
The result extends Roma’s strong run in Serie A Women, improving their league record to 11 wins, one loss and three draws. The victory also completes a league double over their rivals, having previously beaten Lazio 1-0 in November. Lazio’s record in the competition now stands at seven wins, five losses and one draw.
The outcome aligned with the pre-match projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which forecast a 2-1 Roma victory. However, it contradicted the same service’s ELO rating system, which had given Lazio an 87.80 percent probability to win.
Roma, now unbeaten in their last four league matches, will look to continue their form when they host FC Como Women on April 3. Lazio, which saw a two-match winning streak snapped, will aim to rebound on April 4 with a visit to FC Internazionale Milano.
