Achuapa vs Malacateco

Achuapa Seeks Home Breakthrough Against Struggling Malacateco

GUATEMALA CITY (Interstat) — Two clubs trending in opposite directions will meet Sunday when Deportivo Achuapa hosts Malacateco in a Liga Nacional clash at the Estadio Manuel Ariza.

The match, scheduled for April 12, 2026, pits a home side finding modest form against a visiting squad mired in a profound scoring drought. Malacateco arrives desperate to reverse a brutal stretch that has seen it lose seven consecutive matches, failing to score a single goal in any of those defeats. Its most recent outing was a 1-0 loss at Xinabajul on Friday.

Achuapa, while inconsistent, has shown more recent promise. It earned a 1-0 victory over Cobán Imperial on March 22 and battled to a 3-3 draw with powerhouse Municipal in mid-March. Its last match was a 2-1 home loss to that same Municipal side on April 2.

Recent history firmly favors the visitors in this specific fixture, however. Malacateco has won the last two head-to-head meetings, both in the 2025 Apertura season: a 2-0 home win on Aug. 30 and a 1-0 victory at the Estadio Manuel Ariza on Nov. 5.

Malacateco’s alarming slump dates to early March. Since a 1-0 win over Guastatoya on April 2, the team has been blanked in losses to Municipal, Xelajú, Mictlan, Marquense and twice to Xelajú in league play. Its last goal from open play in the current Clausura campaign was over a month ago.

Achuapa’s season has been defined by narrow results. Five of its last ten matches have ended with a 1-0 scoreline, and it has drawn three times, including a stalemate with Municipal in February.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw for Sunday’s contest, a result that would snap Malacateco’s losing streak but extend its winless run.

For Malacateco, the schedule offers little respite after this match. Its next fixture is a daunting away date at league leaders Municipal on April 26. Achuapa faces a quick turnaround, visiting Xelajú on Thursday, April 16, before hosting Antigua GFC on April 26.

Sunday’s match will test whether Achuapa can finally solve its recent nemesis or if Malacateco’s offense can awaken from its prolonged slumber.
