LORIENT, France (Interstat) — Lorient opened its Ligue 1 season with a 2-1 victory over Racing Club de Lens on Saturday at Stade Yves Allainmat.

Bamba Dieng put the hosts ahead in the 18th minute. Lens substitute Odsonne Edouard leveled the match just before halftime in the 48th. Lorient forward Aiyegun Tosin netted the decisive goal in the 65th minute for the win.

The physical contest featured five yellow cards. The result gave Lorient a winning start in the French top flight, while Lens began its campaign with a defeat. The outcome defied a pregame statistical projection that had favored Lorient but predicted a higher-scoring Lens victory.
