UGANDA SUPER LEAGUE PREVIEW: VIPERS HOST EXPRESS SPORTS

KAMPALA, Uganda (Interstat) — Vipers host Express Sports on Saturday in a Uganda Super League matchup that pits the league’s stingiest defense against a visiting side desperate to find the net.

A game simulator projects Vipers to win 1-0. The match kicks off at 4 p.m. local time at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Vipers (8-3-5 in their last 16 league matches) enter on a four-match unbeaten run. They defeated Buhimba United Saints FC 2-0 on April 21 and played SC Villa to a 1-1 draw on April 15. Goalkeeper Marco Teny is a player to watch. Teny was substituted out of a scoreless draw against Uganda Police FC on May 12 but has been a steady presence for a back line that has recorded clean sheets in six of its last 10 matches.

Express Sports (3-6-7 in its last 16) has lost two straight and scored only one goal in its past four matches. The team was shut out 2-0 at home by BUL FC on April 24 for its most recent result. Forward Amos Muwonge is a key figure. Muwonge recorded an assist after entering as a substitute in Express Sports’ 0-0 draw with Lugazi FC on May 19 but has been used primarily off the bench.

The teams last met Nov. 26, 2025, when Vipers defeated Express Sports 3-0 at home – the third straight victory for Vipers in the series.

Express Sports’ offensive struggles are pronounced. The Red Eagles have been blanked in seven of their past 13 matches, including a scoreless draw with NEC FC on April 21 and a 0-0 stalemate at Calvary on Feb. 18. Their last win came April 15, a 1-0 decision over UPDF FC.

Vipers have been stronger at home, where they have not lost in regulation since Feb. 14. The Venoms are coming off a 2-1 win at Mbarara City on March 7 and a 3-0 home victory over Lugazi FC on March 3.

The simulator’s forecast of a 1-0 Vipers win reflects the defensive form of both sides: Vipers have conceded more than one goal just twice in 13 matches, while Express Sports have been held scoreless in four of their last five outings.
