Kitara vs NEC FC

KAMPALA, Uganda (Interstat) — Kitara hosts NEC FC on Saturday, May 9, in a Uganda Super League matchup that a game simulator projects as a 1-1 draw.

The teams last met Jan. 24, when they played to a 3-3 draw in Kampala. That result continued a trend of tight competition between the sides, with both clubs sitting in the upper half of the league table as the season enters its final month.

NEC FC enters Saturday on an 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions, with six clean sheets in that span. The visitors’ most recent result was a 0-0 draw at Express Sports on April 21. NEC FC has not lost a league match since a 2-1 defeat to BUL FC in January.

The club’s defense has been the backbone of its success. Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago has posted nine shutouts in league play this season. NEC FC’s recent results include a 1-0 victory at Maroons on April 18 and a 1-0 win at Uganda Revenue Authority FC on April 9. The team also recorded a 1-0 win at Uganda Police FC on March 13 and a 2-0 victory at Lugazi FC on March 6.

Kitara, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency in recent weeks. The hosts played to a 0-0 draw at Calvary on April 22, following a 1-0 loss at KCCA on April 17 and a 0-0 draw at Vipers on April 10.

Earlier in the season, Kitara showed strong form at home, winning four of its first five matches at its own ground. The club recorded a 4-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints FC on March 13 and a 2-0 win at Entebbe on March 3. Kitara also posted a 1-0 home win over Mbarara City on March 10 and a 1-0 win at Maroons on Feb. 12.

However, Kitara has managed just one win in its last six league matches, a span that includes three draws and two defeats.

The matchup features two of the league’s most disciplined defenses. NEC FC has conceded only 14 goals in 22 matches, while Kitara has allowed 16 in the same number of games.

Saturday’s result could have implications for the league standings. Kitara entered the weekend in fourth place, while NEC FC sat two points behind in fifth, with both teams chasing a top-three finish and a potential spot in African club competition.

Kitara’s next match after Saturday will be at BUL FC on May 19.
