PARMA, Italy (Interstat) — US Cremonese opened its Serie A season with a 2-0 road upset of Parma on Saturday, defying pregame projections.

Playing at Stadio Ennio Tardini, the visitors broke a scoreless deadlock in the 54th minute when substitute Youssef Maleh found the net. Substitute Jari Vandeputte doubled the lead in the 68th minute, sealing the victory. Both goals were assisted by Tommaso Barbieri, who also received two yellow cards in a four-minute span late in the first half.

The result was a surprise after statistical models heavily favored Parma. Cremonese begins its campaign with a win, while Parma starts with a loss.
