Atalanta, Udinese Draw in Serie A Opener

BERGAMO, Italy (Interstat) — Atalanta and Udinese played to a 2-2 draw in their Serie A season opener Saturday at New Balance Arena, defying pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.

Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen opened the scoring in the 39th minute before Atalanta’s Keinan Davis equalized in the 55th. Gianluca Scamacca then scored twice for Atalanta in the 75th and 79th minutes to seemingly secure the win, but Udinese’s Isaac Success found a dramatic leveler in second-half stoppage time. The result spoiled Atalanta’s expected victory, as statistical models gave them an 83 percent chance to win. Both teams begin the campaign with a draw in league and overall play.
