MADRID (Interstat) — Nahuel Molina’s early goal stood as the winner as Club Atlético de Madrid defeated Getafe 1-0 in a La Liga match Saturday at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

The defender scored in the eighth minute, finishing an attacking sequence with assists from Obed Vargas and Alexander Sørloth. Getafe’s task was complicated when defender Abdel Abqar received a straight red card in the 55th minute. Sørloth, substitute Zaid Romero and Vargas later received yellow cards for Atletico in a physical second half.

The result defied pre-match projections that favored Getafe. Atletico improved its league record while Getafe, which managed no goals, saw a two-game winning streak snapped. Atletico next faces Real Madrid on March 22. Getafe plays at Espanyol on March 21.
