Substitutes Spark Umraniyespor to Road Victory
ISTANBUL (Interstat) — Umraniyespor opened its 1. Lig campaign with a 2-1 victory at Sariyer on Friday, overcoming a significant pregame projection to win. The match at Yusuf Ziya Öniş Stadyumu was decided by first-half goals from two substitutes.
Benny opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute. Batuhan Çelik doubled Umraniyespor’s lead with another goal in the 41st minute. Sariyer found a late consolation through forward Emeka Friday Eze, but could not complete the comeback.
The result defied statistical models that heavily favored Sariyer. Umraniyespor begins its season with a win, while Sariyer starts with a loss in Türkiye’s second-tier competition.
