Ballymena Utd vs Crusaders

Preview: Ballymena United Hosts Crusaders in NIFL Premiership Clash

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (Interstat) — Two sides seeking momentum will meet Tuesday when Ballymena United hosts Crusaders in a Northern Ireland Football League Premiership fixture at The Showgrounds.

The derby arrives with both teams looking to halt recent struggles. Ballymena (United) is coming off a 2-1 road loss to Glentoran on Saturday. Crusaders earned a 2-2 home draw with Bangor the same day, extending its winless run in league play to five matches.

Recent history between these clubs points to a tight contest. Their two meetings this season both ended in draws: 2-2 at The Showgrounds in November and 1-1 at Seaview in September.

Form, however, has been a concern for both. Crusaders’ last Premiership victory was a 2-1 win over Cliftonville on Dec. 26. Since then, they have conceded 15 goals across four league losses and the recent draw, including heavy defeats to Coleraine (5-1 and 4-0) and Linfield (4-0).

Ballymena has found consistent results equally elusive, with just one win in its last 10 Premiership outings — a 2-0 victory over Coleraine on Dec. 26. They have lost seven of those 10 matches, including a 2-1 defeat to Linfield and a 2-0 loss to Dungannon Swifts in January.

Statistical analysis firm Interstat projects a 2-1 victory for the visiting Crusaders.

The match is a quick turnaround for a busy period. Crusaders will visit Cliftonville next Saturday, while Ballymena travels to face Coleraine on Friday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. local time.
