BENEVENTO, Italy (Interstat) — Visiting Cavese 1919 delivered a major upset in Serie C on Monday, defeating league-leading Benevento 1-0 at Stadio Ciro Vigorito.

Francesco Orlando scored the match’s only goal in the 11th minute. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Benevento. The home side, which had lost only five times all season in the competition, could not find an equalizer against a disciplined Cavese defense.

The victory marks a significant result for Cavese 1919, which improves its record to eight wins, nine draws and 11 losses. Benevento, which had been in strong form, drops to 20 wins, nine draws and five losses. The teams had last met in December, when Benevento won 1-0.
