POTENZA, Italy (Interstat) — Sorrento and Crotone opened their Serie C campaigns with a 2-2 draw Sunday at Stadio Comunale Alfredo Viviani. The match defied a pregame projection that favored the visitors.

Crotone’s Matteo Maggio opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but Sorrento’s Federico Ricci equalized just three minutes later. Eugenio D’Ursi put Sorrento ahead in the 65th minute before Crotone found a late tying goal. The result left both clubs with an identical record of one draw in all competitions this season. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, though its system gave Crotone a 61.9 percent chance to win.
