CARTAGENA, Spain (Interstat) — FC Cartagena opened its Primera Federación Femenina season with a 2-1 victory over Marbella on Sunday at Estadio Municipal Cartagonova.

Benito Ramírez gave the hosts a lead just three minutes into the match. Victor Sánchez doubled Cartagena’s advantage in the 18th minute. Marbella found a response after halftime with a goal from Chiki in the 53th minute but could not complete the comeback. The result defied a pregame statistical projection of a draw, as Cartagena entered with a high probability to win. The home side begins its campaign with a win, while Marbella starts with a loss.
