Substitutes Shine as Guingamp, Grenoble Draw in Ligue 2 Opener
GUINGAMP, France (April 10, 2026) (Interstat) — Guingamp and Grenoble Foot 38 opened their Ligue 2 seasons with a 1-1 draw Friday at Stade du Roudourou.
The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored the home side. Grenoble substitute Clément Vidal opened the scoring in the 16th minute, assisted by fellow substitute Matthéo Xantippe. Guingamp’s Louis Mafouta equalized in the 65th, finishing a pass from defender Sohaib Nair.
Vidal, who also assisted on Mafouta’s goal, was the standout performer in a match defined by contributions off the bench. The physical contest featured six yellow cards, with two issued following a scuffle in the 38th minute.
Both clubs begin the campaign with identical records of zero wins, zero losses and one draw across all competitions.
