Substitutes Spark AZ to Comeback Win in KNVB Beker
ALKMAR, Netherlands (Interstat) — AZ rallied from an early deficit to defeat Telstar 1963 2-1 on Wednesday in a KNVB Beker women’s football match at AFAS Stadion.
Telstar’s Danny Bakker opened the scoring in the 47th minute, but AZ responded quickly. Substitute Neville Ogidi Nwankwo equalized just four minutes later, assisted by Elijah Dijkstra. Another substitute, Kay Tejan, completed the comeback in the 74th minute, converting a pass from Patrick Brouwer.
The result defied a pregame projection that favored AZ by a narrower margin. Dijkstra, Kees Smit and Brouwer received yellow cards in the contest. AZ begins its cup campaign with a victory, while Telstar starts with a defeat.
