SAINT-ÉTIENNE, France (March 7, 2026) (Interstat) — Saint-Etienne II opened its Ligue 2 season with a 2-0 victory over Red Star on Saturday at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, outperforming statistical projections.

Defender Kévin Pedro broke a scoreless deadlock in the 65th minute before forward Lucas Stassin sealed the win in the 80th. Substitute Balthazar Pierret and midfielder Abdoulaye Kanté provided assists. Both assist-makers later received yellow cards.

The result defied a Interstat game simulator projection of a 1-1 draw. The system had given the home side a 59.4% probability to win. Saint-Etienne II begins the campaign with a win while Red Star starts with a loss.
