LISBOA, Portugal (March 3, 2026) (Interstat) — Sporting CP delivered a major upset Tuesday, defeating Porto 1-0 in a Taça de Portugal match at Estádio José Alvalade.

Luis Suárez scored the game’s only goal late in the second half. The strike was assisted by substitute Alberto Costa, who entered the match along with other key contributors Gabriel Veiga and Alan Varela.

The result defied overwhelming projections, as statistical models heavily favored Porto to win. The visitors failed to score despite being forecast for a multi-goal victory.

Porto received no yellow cards, while Sporting CP players were booked five times in a physical contest. The win gives Sporting CP an early advantage in the domestic cup competition.
