Sundowns Topple MC Alger in Champions League Opener

PRETORIA, South Africa (Interstat) — Mamelodi Sundowns opened its CAF Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory over MC Alger on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Forward Brayan Léon scored both goals for the home side, netting in the sixth and 63rd minutes. His brace powered Sundowns to a win that defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw by Interstat. The firm’s ELO system had given Sundowns a 69.9% chance to win.

Substitutes Merwane Khelif and Ayoub Ghezala each recorded an assist, as did defender Khuliso Mudau and midfielder Jayden Adams. The match featured six yellow cards, with Adams booked in the 21st minute.

The result gives Sundowns a winning start in group play, while MC Alger begins its tournament with a loss.
