Stellenbosch FC vs Singida Black Stars FC

STELLENBOSCH, South Africa (Interstat) — Two sides seeking a crucial rebound will meet Sunday when South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC hosts Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars FC in CAF Confederation Cup group stage play.

The match at Danie Craven Stadium kicks off at 3 p.m. local time (1300 GMT).

Both teams enter the fixture on the heels of disappointing domestic results last Sunday. Stellenbosch was routed 3-0 by AS Otoho in Congo, while Singida fell 1-0 at home to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad. Those results have tightened Group B, increasing the importance of this head-to-head clash.

The previous meeting between these clubs ended in a 1-1 draw in Tanzania on Nov. 30. That result is part of a challenging continental campaign for Stellenbosch, which has lost its last three Confederation Cup matches by a combined score of 8-0.

Singida’s form has been mixed, with two wins, two draws and two losses in its last six matches across all competitions. Its most recent away trip in the tournament ended in a 2-1 defeat at AS Otoho on Feb. 1.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Singida Black Stars are projected to win 2-0. That prediction will be tested against a Stellenbosch side desperate for a positive result in front of its home supporters.

The Confederation Cup is Africa’s second-tier continental club competition. A victory for either side would provide a vital boost in the quest to advance to the knockout stages.

Stellenbosch will look to leverage home-field advantage, having secured a 1-0 win over AS Otoho in its only previous home group match in November. Singida aims to capitalize on its opponent’s recent defensive struggles and secure a valuable away victory.
