Preview: Wydad Athletic Hosts azam FC in CAF Confederation Cup Clash

CASABLANCA, Morocco (Interstat) — Wydad Athletic Club will host Tanzania’s azam FC in a CAF Confederation Cup group stage match on Sunday, looking to leverage home advantage after a recent stumble.

The Moroccan powerhouse enters the contest following a surprising 3-2 away defeat to Jeun Mass Laayoune in domestic play on Feb. 8. That result snapped a generally strong run of form for Wydad, which had won four of its previous five matches across all competitions, including a 1-0 victory over this same azam FC side on Nov. 28, 2025.

azam FC arrives in North Africa riding a wave of confidence, having secured three consecutive 1-0 victories. Their latest win came against AS Maniema Union on Feb. 7, part of an impressive stretch where the Tanzanian club has remained unbeaten in its last seven matches across all competitions, with six wins and one draw.

Despite that formidable run, history favors the hosts. The solitary previous meeting between the clubs resulted in Wydad’s 1-0 away win in November. Wydad’s overall season performance at home has been stout, with a record highlighting resilience in Casablanca.

The match presents a classic contrast. Wydad will aim to reassert its dominance and capitalize on the intimidating atmosphere of its home stadium. azam FC, however, brings a disciplined and in-form squad that has proven difficult to break down, conceding only once during its current seven-game unbeaten streak.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a narrow 1-0 victory for the visitors, suggesting a potential upset. If accurate, it would mark a significant reversal from the November result and a major step for azam FC in continental competition.

For Wydad, the game is a crucial opportunity to solidify its standing in the Confederation Cup and rebound from its recent league defeat. For azam, it is a chance to prove its sustained excellence can translate against elite opposition on the road.

Kickoff is set for Sunday afternoon local time at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
