Preview: AS Otoho vs. Stellenbosch FC in CAF Confederation Cup

JOHANNESBURG (Interstat) — AS Otoho will seek home-field advantage and revenge when it hosts South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC in a CAF Confederation Cup group stage match Sunday.

The fixture at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, is a quick turnaround from their November meeting, which Stellenbosch won 1-0 at home. That result gives the visiting side a narrow edge in the nascent head-to-head series.

Form, however, favors the Congolese side entering the weekend. AS Otoho is coming off a momentum-building 2-1 victory over Singida Black Stars FC last Sunday. That performance contrasted sharply with Stellenbosch’s, which suffered a demoralizing 3-0 home defeat to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad on the same day.

The recent slump for Stellenbosch extends beyond that lopsided loss. The club has failed to score in three of its last four matches across all competitions, managing only one goal in that span. Its only positive recent result was the 1-1 draw at Singida Black Stars FC in late November.

AS Otoho’s campaign has shown more potency, including a stunning 4-1 victory over group leader CR Belouizdad in November. Its attacking flair at home will test a Stellenbosch defense that has conceded five goals in its last two outings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the match is projected to end in a 1-0 victory for AS Otoho.

The outcome will be crucial for the group standings ahead of the next matchday on Feb. 15, when AS Otoho travels to face CR Belouizdad and Stellenbosch hosts Singida Black Stars FC.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (1400 GMT).
