ZANZIBAR CITY, Tanzania (Interstat) — Sadio Kanouté’s 24th-minute header provided the decisive goal as azam FC defeated AS Maniema Union 1-0 in CAF Confederation Cup play Saturday at Amaan Stadium.

The home side avenged a 2-0 loss from the reverse fixture in November. The lone score came from Kanouté, a midfielder, who connected on a headed finish. The assist was credited to defender Lusajo Mwaikenda.

The match grew contentious in the second half, with five yellow cards issued after the 43rd minute. The victory improved azam FC’s record in the competition to five wins, two losses and one draw. AS Maniema Union’s tournament mark fell to 4-2-2.
