LA SPEZIA, Italy (Interstat) — Spezia and Empoli FC played to a 1-1 draw in a Serie B match Tuesday at Stadio Alberto Picco.

The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. The lone goal came in the 69th minute when Empoli FC forward Gabriele Artistico found the net. Assists were credited to substitutes Matteo Lovato and Antonio Candela for Empoli, and to Filippo Bandinelli and Marco Nasti for Spezia.

The match was a physical contest, producing six yellow cards. The draw leaves both clubs with identical records in Serie B and across all competitions: no wins, no losses and one draw. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 2-1 Spezia victory, giving the home side a 79.1 percent probability to win.
