Preview: Cong An Nhan Dan vs. Phu Tho

HANOI, Vietnam (Interstat) — Cong An Nhan Dan hosts Phu Tho on Saturday, May 30, in a Vietnamese Second Division matchup that brings together two sides desperate to reverse recent skids.

Both teams enter the contest on the back of losses. Cong An Nhan Dan fell 3-1 at CLB Quảng Ninh on May 23, while Phu Tho was blanked 2-0 at home by Dong Thap on May 22. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-0 win for the home side.

Phu Tho’s Struggles

The visitors have lost four of their past six matches. Following a 4-1 defeat at CLB Quy Nhơn United on April 3, they rebounded with a 4-3 win at CLB TP Hồ Chí Minh on April 10, only to drop a 3-1 decision at home to CLB Bắc Ninh on April 26. A 2-1 victory at CLB Trẻ TP Hồ Chí Minh on May 16 offered hope, but the shutout loss to Dong Thap exposed recurring defensive vulnerabilities. Phu Tho’s only other clean sheet this season came in a 0-0 draw at CLB Quảng Ninh on March 14.

Cong An Nhan Dan’s Inconsistency

The home side has been equally erratic. After a 2-1 win at Hoang Anh Gia Lai on May 10, Cong An Nhan Dan suffered a 4-0 rout by Ha Nội on May 17. A 1-1 draw at CLB Thể Cong - Viettel on May 22 preceded the defeat at CLB Quảng Ninh. The team has managed just two wins in its past nine matches, with five losses and two draws. Defensively, they were shut out in four of those nine outings, including scoreless draws against Dong Thap on May 3 and Hong Linh Tinh on May 2.

Outlook

Cong An Nhan Dan will lean on home-field advantage, but recent form offers little margin for error. Phu Tho’s attack, which showed life in the 4-3 win over CLB TP Hồ Chí Minh and the 2-1 victory at CLB Trẻ, must overcome a Cong An Nhan Dan defense that held three opponents scoreless in May.

The simulator’s projection of a 2-0 home win aligns with the historical trend of tight, low-scoring affairs between sides near the bottom of the division.

Both teams play again on June 6, with Cong An Nhan Dan traveling to CLB Bắc Ninh and Phu Tho hosting Dong Nai.
