Jag Bialystok vs Legia Warsawa

BIALYSTOK, Poland (Interstat) — In a fiercely contested Ekstraklasa derby that defied pregame projections, Jag Bialystok and Legia Warsaw played to a 2-2 draw Sunday at Chorten Arena.

The result left both Polish top-flight clubs with a share of the points, a conclusion that seemed unlikely after a frantic first half that featured three goals. The match was a rematch of a scoreless draw from September.

Legia Warsaw’s Leon Flach opened the scoring in the 17th minute, giving the visiting side an early advantage. Jag Bialystok responded quickly, with forward Afimico Pululu leveling the match just five minutes later in the 22nd minute. Pululu’s equalizer was a key performance in the match.

Just before halftime, defender Bernardo Vital put the home side ahead, scoring in the first minute of stoppage time to send Jag Bialystok into the break with momentum.

The lead was short-lived. Eleven minutes after the restart, Flach struck again for Legia Warsaw, netting his second goal of the match in the 56th minute to ultimately secure the draw. The match concluded with a single yellow card shown to Legia Warsaw’s Tolis Konstantopoulos in the dying moments of second-half stoppage time.

The draw extends Jag Bialystok’s strong domestic form. The club now holds a season record of 11 wins, five losses and seven draws in Ekstraklasa play, positioning them firmly in the upper half of the table. Across all competitions, they are 20-7-8.

For Legia Warsaw, the single point on the road offers a modest boost as they navigate an inconsistent campaign. Their league record now stands at eight wins, nine losses and 12 draws. Their overall record across all tournaments moved to 17-15-15.

The outcome diverged from the pregame analytics. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 final, while its ELO rating system gave Jag Bialystok a narrow 51.3% probability of securing a victory at home.

Jag Bialystok will look to return to winning ways in its next fixture, a league match on the road against Lechia Gdansk on Friday. Legia Warsaw returns to action at home next Sunday, March 8, against Cracovia as the Ekstraklasa season continues.
