SOUTHEND-ON-SEA, England (March 10, 2026) (Interstat) — Southend United and Gateshead opened their National League seasons with a 1-1 draw Tuesday at Roots Hall Stadium.

Gateshead forward Andrew Dallas opened the scoring in the 21st minute. Southend substitute Brad Nicholson equalized just before halftime in the 45th minute. Each scorer was assisted by a defender from their side, James Golding for Gateshead and Kenton Richardson for Southend.

The result matched the exact 1-1 final score projected by Interstat’s simulator, though it defied the system’s heavy odds favoring a Southend victory. Both clubs begin the campaign with identical records across all competitions.
