Late Mendy Goal Secures Montpellier Draw Against Troyes in Ligue 2 Opener
MONTPELLIER, France (Interstat) — Montpellier and Troyes played to a 2-2 draw Saturday in a frenetic Ligue 2 match at Stade de la Mosson. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored Montpellier.
The match exploded with two goals in the opening four minutes. Troyes substitute Martin Adeline scored in the third minute, only for Montpellier’s Théo Chennahi to equalize a minute later. Alex Mendy gave Montpellier a 2-1 lead just before halftime, converting a penalty in stoppage time. Troyes substitute Tawfik Bentayeb leveled the match in the 60th minute. Both teams finished with four yellow cards. The draw leaves each side with an identical record across all competitions this season.
