Aubameyang’s Late Double Lifts Marseille Over Lyon in Ligue 1 Opener
MARSEILLE, France (Interstat) — Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice in the final 10 minutes Sunday as Marseille opened its Ligue 1 season with a 3-2 comeback victory over Lyon at Orange Vélodrome.
Lyon substitute Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring in the third minute. Marseille’s Igor Paixão equalized in the 52nd, but Lyon’s Rémi Himbert restored the lead in the 76th.
Aubameyang then delivered the winner, heading in a cross in the 81st minute and sealing the dramatic win with a second goal in stoppage time. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Lyon.
