Rennes Edges Toulouse in Tight Ligue 1 Contest
RENNES, France (Interstat) — Arnaud Nordin’s first-half goal stood as the winner as Stade Rennais FC 1901 defeated Toulouse 1-0 in Ligue 1 play Saturday at Roazhon Park.
Nordin scored in the 27th minute, assisted by substitute Alexis Vossah, to provide the only offense in a match defined by defensive discipline. The result improved Rennes’ league record to six wins, five losses and five draws, while Toulouse fell to 9-9-6.
The match was a physical affair, producing four yellow cards. Toulouse’s Esteban Lepaul was booked in the 24th minute, followed by cautions for Rennes’ Pape Demba Diop and Charlie Cresswell before halftime. Vossah also received a yellow in the 62nd minute.
The victory gave Rennes a measure of revenge after the teams played to a 2-2 draw in October. Toulouse, which was projected by statistical models to have a slight edge, failed to find an equalizer despite the earlier tie.
