Monaco Dominates Nantes in Ligue 1 Season Opener

MONACO (Interstat) — AS Monaco opened its Ligue 1 season with a commanding 3-1 victory over Nantes at Stade Louis II on Friday.

The hosts delivered a stunning first-half blitz, scoring three times in five minutes. Forward Simon Adingra struck twice in the 25th and 28th minutes before midfielder Denis Zakaria added a third in the 30th. Nantes substitute Fabien Centonze scored a consolation goal in first-half stoppage time.

Monaco midfielder Aleksandr Golovin received a yellow card in the 64th minute and a second yellow a minute later, reducing his side to 10 men for the final 25 minutes. The match featured eight total yellow cards. The result defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw from Interstat, which had given Monaco a 73% chance to win.
