Late Equalizer Seals Draw in La Liga Opener

CORNELLÀ DE LLOBREGAT, Spain (Interstat) — Espanyol and Celta Vigo opened their La Liga seasons with a 2-2 draw Saturday at RCDE Stadium.

Substitute Ferran Jutglà put the hosts ahead in the 38th minute, but Celta Vigo responded with second-half goals from Kike García in the 66th and Tyrhys Dolan in the 86th to take a late lead. Espanyol’s Borja Iglesias, also a substitute, scored a dramatic equalizer in the third minute of stoppage time to salvage the draw. Espanyol defender Leandro Cabrera received a yellow card moments after the final goal.

The result defied a pregame projection that favored Celta Vigo. Both clubs begin the campaign with identical records across all competitions.
