Pau vs Montpellier

Preview: Pau vs. Montpellier, Ligue 2

PARIS (Interstat) — A crucial mid-table Ligue 2 clash is set for Friday when Pau FC hosts Montpellier HSC at the Stade du Hameau.

The matchup carries added intrigue from their last meeting, a 1-0 Pau victory at Montpellier on Dec. 6. That result will be on the minds of both squads as they seek consistency in the final stretch of the season.

Montpellier (8-7-10) arrives following a dominant 3-0 road win against Nancy on March 6, a performance that halted a run of uneven form. Their recent results have been a mixed bag, with wins over Bourgoin-Jallieu (2-0) and Guingamp (3-1) offset by losses to Rodez (1-0) and Saint-Etienne II (1-0). Their attack, led by key contributors from the Nancy rout, will look to build momentum.

Pau (6-9-10) is coming off a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Bastia on the same date. Their form has been similarly unpredictable, with a 3-0 victory at Red Star on Feb. 6 standing alongside recent defeats to Saint-Etienne II (3-0) and Boulogne (2-1). The home side will rely on the confidence from its earlier win against Montpellier.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the contest is projected to end in a 1-1 draw.

The fixture is critical for both clubs’ positioning. A win for either could provide a springboard for a late-season push.
