Late Suárez Strike Earns Sporting Lisbon Draw at Porto

PORTO, Portugal (Interstat) — Substitute Luis Suárez scored deep in stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Sporting Lisbon against Porto in a Primeira Liga match Monday at Estádio do Dragão.

Porto midfielder Séko Fofana broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, appearing to secure the points for the hosts. But Suárez, who also assisted on Fofana’s goal, leveled the match in the 10th minute of added time. The frantic finish followed a chippy second half that saw eight yellow cards issued.

The result leaves both clubs with identical records in the Portuguese league after one match. The draw defied pregame projections that favored Porto to win.
