Honved II vs Kozarmisleny
BUDAPEST, Hungary (Interstat) — Kozarmisleny scored twice in a frantic nine-minute span of the second half to overturn a deficit and secure a 2-1 victory over Honved II in NB II play on Saturday at Bozsik Aréna.
The result, which defied pregame projections, saw the visiting side complete a league double over Honved II this season, having also won the earlier fixture 2-1 last October.
The match, part of Hungary’s second-tier league, was a tale of two halves dominated by defensive structure before a sudden flurry of goals. Honved II, the reserve side of the historic Budapest club, entered the contest as a heavy favorite according to statistical models. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 2-1 win for the hosts, while its ELO rating system gave Honved II an 80.7 percent probability of victory.
For over an hour, the game followed a tense, scoreless script. The deadlock was finally broken in the 63rd minute when Honved II’s Barnabás Kozics found the net, giving the home side a lead that seemed to align with expectations.
However, Kozarmisleny mounted a swift and decisive response. Striker Zoltán Medgyes leveled the score in the 72nd minute, setting the stage for a dramatic turnaround. Just six minutes later, in the 78th minute, Dániel Zsóri scored what proved to be the winning goal, capitalizing on the shift in momentum to stun the home supporters.
The victory provides a significant boost for Kozarmisleny’s campaign. The team improved its NB II record to nine wins, nine losses and eight draws, demonstrating a continued pattern of competitive inconsistency but showcasing an ability to secure results against top-half opposition. The loss was a setback for Honved II, which holds one of the league’s stronger records at 16 wins, six losses and six draws. The reserve squad’s performance across all competitions remains impressive, but this result highlighted a rare stumble at home.
The match was a reversal of recent form for both clubs. Kozarmisleny arrived having shut out Budafoki MTE 1-0 just six days prior, but had endured a heavy 6-0 loss to Vasas II in early March. Honved II had been in strong scoring form, netting four goals in a win on April 5, but also suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Tiszakecskei LC on the same day.
Kozarmisleny will look to build on this away victory when it hosts Ajka in its next NB II fixture on April 19. Honved II, which also had a match scheduled later Saturday against BKV Elore, must regroup quickly. Its next league challenge is a trip to face Mezokovesd-Zsory on April 18.
