Lazio W vs Fiorentina W

ROME (Interstat) — Lazio Women delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, decisively defeating Fiorentina Women 3-0 in a Serie A Women’s match at the Centro Sportivo di Formello.

The result, which defied pregame projections, saw Lazio capitalize on early opportunities to secure a comprehensive victory and level the two clubs’ league records. Entering the match, statistical models heavily favored the visitors. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 2-1 win for Fiorentina, and its ELO system gave Fiorentina a 56.7 percent probability of victory.

Lazio wasted little time in overturning those expectations. The home side established control in the first half with two goals in a seven-minute span. Eleonora Goldoni opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing a move to give Lazio the lead. Just seven minutes later, forward Martina Piemonte doubled the advantage, putting Fiorentina under significant pressure before halftime.

Any hope of a Fiorentina comeback was effectively extinguished just past the hour mark. Substitute Filippa Curmark, who had entered the match in the second half, made an immediate impact. She netted Lazio’s third goal in the 61st minute, sealing the three points. Curmark’s contribution was pivotal, as she also recorded an assist to complete a goal-and-assist performance off the bench.

The match was not without its contentious moments, reflected in three yellow cards. Lazio’s Carina Baltrip-Reyes was booked in the 27th minute, shortly before her team’s opening goal. Curmark received a yellow card in the 60th minute, just before scoring, and Fiorentina’s Flamini Simonetti was cautioned in the 65th minute. Simonetti and Baltrip-Reyes were each credited with an assist in the game.

The victory marks a significant rebound for Lazio, which suffered a 1-0 loss to Ternana Femminile in its previous league outing on Jan. 18. It improves Lazio’s Serie A Women record to six wins, four losses and one draw, matching Fiorentina’s six wins but with one more loss and three fewer draws. Fiorentina, which had been unbeaten in its last two matches including a 1-1 draw with Genoa CFC Women on Jan. 17, saw its form stall decisively in Formello.

Both teams now look ahead to challenging fixtures next month. Lazio faces a difficult trip to face Juventus Women on Feb. 15, followed by a home match against AC Milan on Feb. 21. Fiorentina will seek to regain its footing on Feb. 8 with a visit to FC Internazionale Milano, before hosting US Sassuolo Calcio on Feb. 22.

The match was played at Lazio’s training ground facility, the Centro Sportivo di Formello - Campo Mirko Fersini, in Formello.
