Al Ahli Routs Al Shabab in Stunning Saudi Pro League Opener

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Interstat) — Al Ahli Saudi Club delivered a stunning 5-2 victory over Al Shabab on Friday, defying pregame projections in the Saudi Pro League opener for both clubs at SHG Arena.

Interstat’s systems had heavily favored Al Shabab with an 84.6% win probability and projected a narrow 1-0 Al Ahli win. The visitors shattered those expectations with a first-half scoring barrage.

Substitutes Rayan Hamidou and Franck Kessié scored in the sixth and 20th minutes, respectively. Riyad Mahrez, another substitute, made it 3-0 in the 25th. Yannick Carrasco then scored twice, including a 33rd-minute free kick, before Enzo Millot added a fifth goal a minute later. Millot received a yellow card in the 39th minute.

Al Shabab managed two second-half goals but never threatened the result. Al Ahli begins its Pro League campaign 1-0, while Al Shabab starts 0-1.
