Barcelona’s Late Goals Defy Odds in Copa del Rey Juvenil Upset
SANTANDER, Spain (Jan. 15, 2026) (Interstat) — FC Barcelona’s substitutes delivered a stunning 2-0 victory over Real Racing Club on Thursday in the Copa del Rey Juvenil, defying heavy statistical odds.
The match at Campos de Sport de El Sardinero was scoreless until the 66th minute, when substitute Ferrán Torres broke the deadlock. Barcelona sealed the win deep in stoppage time as another substitute, Lamine Yamal, scored in the 95th minute.
The result was an upset. Interstat’s ELO system had given the home side a 70.2 percent probability to win, and its simulator projected only a 1-0 Barcelona victory.
The match featured seven yellow cards, five shown after Torres’s go-ahead goal. Assists were credited to Mario García, Marco Sangalli, Fermin López, Iñigo Vicente and Damián Rodríguez.
Barcelona begins its tournament campaign at 1-0, while Real Racing Club starts 0-1.
